Goalkeeper Jack Bonham was the hero as Gillingham held Portsmouth and refused the hosts a league win in a row.
Bonham pulled three good travels at Fratton Park to leave the house crowd.
The visitors setup to stifle but offered little in the method of threat, while the ball was dominated by Pompey but lacked any consistency in the third.
Gareth Evans shot from outside the penalty area had Bonham diving low to flip the ball .
Pompey midfielder Ben Close had a snapshot from Brett Pitmans lay-off, but Bonham was equal to this challenge.
Gillingham effort came through Mikael Ndjolis left-footed shot from distance, which curled just wide of this left handed post.
Pompey came when Sean Raggett thundered a header out of Evans free-kick along with the rally was clear.
Another great save from Bonham maintained out Ellis Harrison drive from 20 yards along with the injury-time attack of Lee Brown flashed wide to close the match.
